Cake slice boxes are wedge-shaped or square single-portion cartons for cafes, wedding favours and dessert counters. The triangular style follows the shape of the slice so it cannot slide and topple, while square clamshells suit tray bakes. Many have a window, and most fold up from a single flat blank.

Shape the slice's first look.
Artwork and materialsArtwork runs across the wedge lid and side walls, often around a window showing the cut layers. A bold lid design matters most, since it faces up on counters and in display fridges. Our packaging guides cover sizing, materials, print, and cost in more depth.
Wedge lid, walls and band
We fit your design to the triangular lid and walls on the dieline, keep fine detail off the narrow tip, and can design a printed band or sleeve with a slot that holds a fork.
Explore print and finishesCoated, kraft and window film
Coated white board shows colour sharply and copes with display fridges. Grease-resistant kraft gives a natural look that suits cafes, and a clear window film puts the layers and frosting on show.

Cost factorsEvery project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.
- Shape
- Wedge blanks nest less efficiently on a press sheet than square ones, so they use more board.
- Grease resistance
- Coatings for buttercream and ganache add cost over plain board.
- Window
- A film window adds material and a patching step.
- Quantity of sizes
- Different slice depths and angles each need their own die.
Choosing this format
Why a wedge shape
A wedge box matches the slice, so there is no empty corner for the cake to slide into and tip over.
A slice of round cake is a triangle with a curved back. In a square box it slides into a corner and falls on its side, smearing the icing. A wedge box holds it from both cut faces so it stays standing.
The angle matters: a slice from a cake cut into eight is wider than one from a cake cut into twelve. Tell us how many slices you cut from each cake and we set the angle to match.
- Matches the slice shape
- Holds from both cut faces
- Size to your cutting angle
Protecting the cut faces
The cut sides of a slice are the most visible part, and the easiest to mark.
Buttercream, ganache and cream layers smear against board. A clear window lets customers see the layers without the box touching them, and a little side clearance keeps the walls off the cake.
Slice boxes as wedding favours
At weddings, a slice box lets guests take a piece of the cake home.
Favour slice boxes are often printed with names and a date, or tied with ribbon to match the theme. Fruit cake and firm sponges travel best; soft cream cakes are better eaten on the day.
Questions about cake slice boxes.
Box style FAQsWe’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.
Read all frequently asked questionsCan a cake slice box fit a tall layer cake slice?+
Yes. We size the box to your slice, and layer cakes can stand 10 to 15 cm tall, much more than a single-layer sponge or a cheesecake. Measure the slice height including frosting and toppers and we add clearance. For a tall slice we also make the base wide enough, or the fit firm enough, that it cannot tip when the lid opens.
How do cake slice boxes pack into a display fridge or a carrier?+
Neatly. Two wedge boxes laid tip to back make a near rectangle, so they fill trays and fridges with little wasted space. We recommend stacking no more than two high, as the narrow tips carry little weight. For fridge use we can make them in coated board, which copes with condensation better than plain kraft.
Can a fork be packed with a cake slice box?+
Yes, on the outside. A snug wedge box leaves no spare space inside, and a fork resting against the slice would mark it. Many cafes tape a wrapped fork to the lid or tuck it under a ribbon, and we can design a printed band or sleeve around the box with a slot that holds one.
Can a cake slice box carry cheesecake?+
Yes. For cheesecake, which is dense and moist, we make cake slice boxes in coated board and can add a small card base under the slice so it lifts out whole. Keep it chilled. For a whole cheesecake, or many slices together, our cheesecake boxes are the better fit.
