Truffle boxes are small, often square, gift boxes for hand-rolled chocolate truffles. Truffles are soft, round and dusted in cocoa or sugar, so each sits in its own paper cup or tray cavity to stop it rolling and smudging. Two and four-piece favours are as common as larger selections, and the box is usually rigid or a heavy folding carton with a lid.

Artwork and materialsTruffle boxes are handled more than they are shipped, so the lid, any band and the inside all count, with a base panel for date and allergens. Our packaging guides cover sizing, materials, print, and cost in more depth.
Lid, inside and base
We print the lid and any belly band or name tag, can print the inside in a cocoa colour so dust does not show, and keep the date and allergen details on the base.

Greyboard wrapped in paper makes even a two-piece favour feel generous, heavy folding boxboard keeps larger selections light, and paper cups or PET cavity trays sit each truffle neatly in view.

Cost factorsEvery project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.
- Rigid or folding
- Wrapped rigid boxes cost more than folding cartons, especially at small sizes.
- Insert
- Cavity trays and paper cups are extra parts.
- Finishing
- Foil, embossing and ribbon add steps per box.
- Run size
- Small favour runs carry a higher setup cost per box.
Choosing this format
Round, soft and dusted
Truffles roll, dent and shed cocoa, so each needs its own seat.
A truffle is a ball of soft ganache, often rolled in cocoa, nuts or icing sugar. Loose in a box it rolls, bruises and leaves powder everywhere. A paper cup or a round cavity holds it still and keeps the coating on the truffle.
Round cavities suit truffles better than the square or shaped cavities in a chocolate box made for moulded pieces, so we cut them to the size of your largest truffle.
- Round cavity or paper cup per piece
- Keep coatings off neighbours
Two and four-piece favours
Two and four-piece boxes are a staple for weddings, events and hotel pillows.
At favour size, the box is handled more than it is shipped, so the finish matters most: a neat lid, a ribbon or a printed name. Small rigid boxes feel generous even with only two truffles inside.
Warmth and shelf life
Fresh truffles soften in warm rooms and have short lives, so the box is part of a cool chain.
Ganache truffles are sensitive to heat and keep best cool. Store boxed truffles away from sunlight and radiators, and keep strong-smelling materials away, as chocolate takes on odours easily.
Questions about truffle boxes.
Box style FAQsWe’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.
Read all frequently asked questionsWill a truffle box stay clean with cocoa-dusted truffles?+
Yes. We recommend seating each truffle in a paper cup, which catches most of the loose powder, with a glassine pad on top. We can print the inside in a dark or cocoa colour so any dust that falls does not show, and give it a smooth coated finish that wipes clean, rather than an uncoated or soft-touch paper that holds powder.
What size cup or cavity does a hand-rolled truffle need?+
We size it from your finished truffles, which are often 2.5 to 3 cm across. The cup base should be close to that size so the truffle sits down inside it, and we make each cavity in the insert a little wider than the cup and deep enough to hold about half the truffle. Hand-rolled pieces vary, so send us the size of your largest.
Can truffle boxes be personalised for a small favour run?+
Yes. For a small run we often keep the box design the same and personalise it with a printed sticker, a belly band, a name tag or a ribbon carrying the couple's names or the event date. For larger runs we can print or foil the lid itself. Keeping names on a separate piece means one box design works for every order.
Where do the date and allergen details go on a truffle box?+
We usually put them on the base, on a printed panel or a label, so the lid stays clean for the gift look. Fresh cream truffles have a short life, so we leave a clear spot for the date to go on by sticker or stamp after filling. Tell us what the label must include and we lay it out on the proof.
