BoxifyMEYour brand, just way more boxified

Lip gloss boxes are built around a slim wand tube with a long applicator inside and a cap that often makes up a third of its length. Gloss buyers choose by colour, so many boxes add a window, a printed shade swatch or a matching panel colour to show the shade without opening the box. Shade sets and launch kits use an insert with a slot per tube.

What changes the price.

Cost factors

Every project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.

Window
A die-cut window with film glued behind it adds a cutting step and a patching step.
Shade versions
Each shade with its own panel colour or swatch is a separate artwork run.
Special board
Metallised or holographic board costs more than plain white board.
Set inserts
A slotted insert for several tubes is an extra part with its own cutting tool.

Choosing this format

Sizing a wand tube

Measure the full tube with the cap on, and the cap diameter as well as the tube diameter.

Many gloss tubes have a cap wider than the tube, or a square cap on a round tube. The carton width is set by whichever is wider, and the tube can then rattle at the narrow end unless an insert or a tighter tuck holds it.

Tubes are long and light, so we make the carton only slightly longer than the tube, which keeps it from sliding end to end and knocking the cap loose.

  • Full length, cap on
  • Widest of cap or tube
  • Snug length stops sliding

Letting the box show the colour

Shoppers buy gloss by colour, so the box should tell them the shade at a glance.

A narrow window lets the real gloss show through, which is honest about the colour but shows the tube's own label too. A printed swatch or a carton printed in the shade colour keeps the box clean but needs careful matching, so we set each swatch to the shade reference you send, such as a Pantone number.

On a range of many shades, a common design with one panel changed per shade keeps the line consistent and the artwork manageable.

Sets and launch kits

A slot per tube keeps a set neat and stops the caps knocking together.

A gloss set usually lies tubes side by side in a shallow box with a die-cut insert, so each shade is visible when the lid opens. For PR and launch kits, the same insert can sit in a rigid or magnetic box for a more finished feel.

Allow a finger gap or a ribbon pull under each tube; slim tubes pressed into a tight slot are hard to lift out.

Questions about lip gloss boxes.

Box style FAQs

We’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.

Read all frequently asked questions
Can holographic or metallic lip gloss boxes be recycled?+

Yes, when the effect is foiled onto ordinary paperboard. We apply holographic foil as a very thin layer, so the box still goes in with paper recycling. Board laminated to a full plastic or metal film is harder to recycle, so if recycling matters to your brand, we recommend foil on plain board rather than a laminated metallic sheet.

Can a lip gloss box show the shade?+

Yes. We can cut a small window in the front panel so shoppers see the real gloss colour through the tube, or print a shade swatch on the front and the end flap. A window shows the true colour but leaves less room for print. A printed swatch keeps the whole panel for your design and still reads clearly in a row of shades.

Is a lip oil box different from a lip gloss box?+

Yes, usually. Lip oils tend to come in small glass bottles with a wand or a roller ball, which are shorter, wider and heavier than a plastic gloss tube. We size a lip oil box with a neck insert or a snug base, much like a small serum box. A gloss tube is long and light, so a close-fitting tuck carton holds it well on its own.

Should a single lip gloss come in a tuck carton or a sleeve and tray?+

For everyday shelf sales we recommend a tuck-end carton: it ships flat, is quick to fill and fits a slim tube closely. For a premium shade or a gift, we make a small sleeve and tray, where the tray slides out and presents the tube lying down. If the gloss goes inside a subscription box, a plain tuck carton is usually all it needs.
