What does hardware & tools packaging need to do?

Designed for the market

Tools and hardware are heavy, sharp-edged and often shipped in mixed loads, so the box must resist crushing and puncture and keep each part from moving.

Boxifyme connects those requirements to the structure, material, printing method, and finish so every choice has a clear job.

Choosing hardware & tools packaging

Which box suits a power tool, a hand tool or a box of fixings?

We match the box to the weight of the product and the way it is sold: double-wall Custom Shipping Boxes for power tools and heavy kits, Custom Hang Tab Boxes and Custom Folding Cartons for hand tools and small packs, and Custom Shipping Boxes for trade quantities.

A power tool is dense for its size, so it needs stiff walls and a close fit. A screwdriver or a pack of wall plugs is light and bought on the spot, so a printed carton on a peg or shelf does the job. Screws and nails sold by the hundred need strength and easy identification more than looks.

We design these formats to share one look, so the range reads as yours on the shelf, the trade counter and the doorstep.

  • Power tools and heavy kits: double-wall Custom Shipping Boxes
  • Hand tools and small packs: Custom Hang Tab Boxes or Custom Folding Cartons
  • Bulk fixings and trade packs: Custom Shipping Boxes

Can a drill bit or socket set keep every piece in its own place?

Yes. We cut a cavity for each bit, socket or driver in a Die Cut Insert, so every piece sits in its own slot, in size order, and goes back in the same place after use.

A tradesperson wants to see at a glance which size is missing, so we lay the cavities out from smallest to largest and can print the size beside or under each slot on the face of the insert. A finger notch at each row or a ribbon pull under the tray lets a piece lift out of a snug fit.

For larger kits we make a lift-out top tray for the small pieces, with a ratchet handle or adaptors beneath. Send us the measurements of every piece, including the shank and any collar, and we show the full layout on the dieline before anything is cut.

  • One cavity per piece, laid out in size order
  • Sizes printed beside each slot on the insert
  • Finger notches, ribbon pulls or a lift-out tray

How do you box a cordless drill with its battery and charger?

We give the tool, the battery and the charger a separate place each in a fitted insert, so nothing knocks against anything else and the box opens with the drill on show.

We usually set the tool body in the centre with the handle facing the customer, and place the battery and charger beside it in their own wells. We measure the charger lead coiled the way you pack it, so it gets its own recess. Corrugated Inserts suit most cordless kits, and Foam Inserts give a closer grip on curved tool bodies.

If your drill already comes in its own hard carry case, we size the outer box around the case instead and keep the print on the outside, so one box carries the kit from the warehouse to the shelf. Tell us what information has to appear on the pack and we leave space for it on the panel and lay it out on the proof.

Will blades, chisels and heavy tools stay inside the box?

Yes. We hold sharp and heavy items still in a fitted corrugated insert, sized closely to the tool, so edges and points cannot work their way into the walls.

Movement is what lets a saw tooth or a chisel edge reach the board, so we stop it at the source. Each tool sits in a cavity cut to its shape, with board between the edge and the wall. Heavy items such as hammers, clamps and vices go in double-wall Custom Shipping Boxes, with the board chosen for the weight and how high they stack.

For greased or oiled tools, we recommend bagging them first or adding a coated liner, so the board stays clean and keeps its strength.

How do you package spades, rakes and other long garden tools?

We make long telescope boxes for garden tools sold online or in sets, where a lid slides over a base and the whole length of the handle is protected, and printed cartons and peg boxes for hand tools such as trowels, pruners and weeders.

We size the box to the full length, then hold the head in a fitted corrugated insert so it cannot slide along the box. Our telescope-style Custom Shipping Boxes suit this shape, because the lid and base overlap along the length.

For gift and starter sets, a Custom Mailer Box with a die cut insert holds a trowel, a fork, pruners and gloves as one set, and a Custom Hang Tab Box puts a single tool on the peg wall at the garden centre. Long tools sold unboxed on a rack can carry your brand on Custom Labels & Stickers wrapped round the handle.

  • Long tools: telescope-style boxes sized to the full length
  • Garden gift sets: Custom Mailer Boxes with a fitted insert
  • Single hand tools: Custom Hang Tab Boxes for the peg wall

DIY shelf box or trade bulk pack: what changes?

A DIY box sells the product to someone deciding in the aisle, so it carries full colour, a clear picture and often a window; a trade pack is bought by size and quantity, so we make it strong, plain and quick to identify on a racking shelf.

For DIY stores we use Custom Folding Cartons and Custom Hang Tab Boxes with your product, its uses and its key sizes on the front, and we can add a window so shoppers see the finish of the tool. For trade packs we use Custom Shipping Boxes printed in one or two colours on kraft, with the product, size and count printed large on the end panel, because trade boxes are usually stored end-on and picked fast.

For fixings ranges in dozens of sizes, we recommend one printed design for the whole range with a blank panel for a size and quantity label. We print those labels too, with a strong adhesive for kraft board, so a new size never needs a new box.

  • DIY: full colour, a product picture and an optional window
  • Trade: kraft board, bold size and count on the end panel
  • One design across a range, with a label for each size

Can a trade counter sell fixings and small tools from a display?

Yes. We make Custom Display Boxes in corrugated board that stand on a trade counter, hold heavier counts without bowing and keep each size in its own compartment.

A counter display keeps quick buys such as screws, blades and spare bits within reach of the till. We divide the tray so each size or type has its own space, set a front lip to the height of the packs and tilt the tray back so every front faces the customer. A scuff-resistant varnish keeps the print clean through daily handling.

We can make the display refillable, with board and a tray shape built to be topped up from your trade packs, or as a shipper that opens into a display with a tear-off front so it goes out full. For a merchant's peg wall, our Custom Hang Tab Boxes have a double-layer folded tab for heavier tools.

Can heavy tools be posted straight to a customer in one box?

Yes. Our double-wall Custom Shipping Boxes travel on their own with no outer carton, and we size them closely to the tool and its insert so it arrives as it was packed.

Spare space in a heavy parcel adds billed weight and room to move, so we draw the box around the insert, not the bare tool. Tell us your courier's weight limit and we design within it. We place any hand holes away from the corners, where the box carries its weight, and print the handling marks your packers and couriers need.

For lighter items such as bit sets, blades or a single hand tool, a Custom Mailer Box with a tuck front and locking ears is quicker to pack and gives your customer a branded opening. If you post a printed retail box, we recommend a plain Custom Shipping Box around it, so the shelf pack arrives as clean as it left you.
