Which box suits rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and watches?
Each piece has its own natural box: we recommend a small lift-off or hinged rigid box for rings and earrings, a flat box or pillow box for chains and bracelets, and a deeper rigid box with a fitted insert for watches.
Rings are small and upright, so they want a compact box that opens to show the stone straight away. Our Rigid Gift Boxes and Magnetic Closure Boxes both work well at this size, and Flip Top Boxes suit a ring that will be taken out and put back often. Earrings follow the same thinking, with the pair held side by side so they are seen together.
Necklaces and bracelets are long and soft, so they sit best laid flat rather than standing. Shallow Custom Two-Piece Rigid Boxes or Custom Drawer Boxes give a chain room to lie out, and our Custom Pillow Boxes suit lighter fashion pieces, gift cards and small add-ons. Watches carry more weight and a strap that needs shaping, so we build them into a deeper rigid box, often one of our Book Style Boxes, with an insert cut around the case and band.
- Rings and earrings: compact rigid or flip top boxes
- Chains and bracelets: shallow rigid, drawer or pillow boxes
- Watches: deeper rigid boxes with a fitted insert
How are earrings shown inside a jewellery box?
On a printed backing card. We cut the card so studs push through and drop earrings hang at their full length, keeping each pair together and level with your logo right beside them.
Earrings are small and come in pairs, so the job is to keep the two side by side and facing your customer. A card does that neatly: studs push through two holes with their backs fastened behind, hooks sit through two slits at the top, and longer drops hang down the card so the whole design shows. We size the card to the box, so it sits flat in the base or stands at a slight angle under the lid.
Because the card carries your print, it works on its own too. The same card can go into one of our Custom Pillow Boxes for lighter fashion pieces, or hang in a shop with a hole punched at the top, so one design covers boxed gifts and loose display. Tell us the earring types you sell and their longest drop, and we lay out the holes and slits on the dieline for you to check.
- Studs push through, hooks sit in slits
- Drops hang at their full length
- One printed card for boxes and display
Will a necklace arrive untangled?
Yes. We hold the chain on a backing card or in a shaped insert so the clasp and pendant stay where you put them, and the chain cannot knot on the way.
A backing card is the simplest and most popular option for chains. The clasp fastens through slits at the top, the pendant sits at the centre and the chain runs neatly between them. The card itself carries your logo, so it doubles as the display when the lid comes off. It fits inside our rigid boxes and drawer boxes, and inside a pillow box for lighter pieces.
For heavier pendants, layered necklaces or a necklace sold with matching earrings, we use a die cut insert with a recess for each piece, so nothing slides across the box. Bracelets are held the same way, wrapped around a card or set into a curved groove in the insert.
What packaging does a watch need?
We make watch boxes as deeper rigid boxes with a foam or rigid insert that holds the case at the front and curls the strap behind it, the way watches are shown in a shop window.
A watch is heavier than most jewellery and its glass face needs to stay clear of the lid. We cut the insert so the case sits slightly raised and the strap or bracelet wraps out of sight, with a finger notch beside it so the watch lifts out easily. Space for a warranty card, spare links or a booklet can go under a lift-out tray or in a slim compartment.
Book Style Boxes and Magnetic Closure Boxes are the usual choices because they open in one deliberate movement and close firmly afterwards, which matters for a box the owner is likely to keep for storing the watch.
Can jewellery be posted in its presentation box?
Yes. We recommend sending the presentation box inside a plain or lightly branded outer box, so the gift box arrives in perfect condition and the parcel gives nothing away about its contents.
Our Custom Mailer Boxes and Custom Shipping Boxes can be sized around your jewellery box with an insert, so it sits still in the middle with no loose fill needed. Many jewellers keep the outside deliberately quiet and save the colour, foil and logo for the box inside, which keeps valuable orders discreet on the doorstep while the reveal still feels special.
If you would rather the outer box also looks good, we can print the inside of the mailer so the brand appears as soon as it opens, and a printed seal from our Custom Labels & Stickers range closes the presentation box neatly underneath.
Which finishes suit fine jewellery and fashion jewellery?
We match the finish to the metal and the style of the collection: gold, silver or rose gold foiling for fine pieces, and bolder print with holographic foiling or spot UV for fashion and costume ranges.
Fine jewellery packaging usually stays restrained, with a single colour wrap, a foiled or embossed logo and a soft lamination that feels smooth in the hand. Choosing a foil that echoes the metal of the collection, rose gold for a rose gold range for example, ties the box to the piece without extra decoration. Debossing a small mark inside the lid adds a detail that is noticed the moment the box opens.
Fashion jewellery moves faster and is often bought as a treat or a gift for a friend, so the box can be brighter. Full colour print, a holographic foil detail or spot UV on the logo all photograph well and suit a collection that changes each season. We show every finish on the digital proof before anything is made.
- Fine pieces: foil matched to the metal, embossing, soft lamination
- Fashion ranges: full colour, holographic foil, spot UV
- Every finish shown on your digital proof
How do I package a matching jewellery set?
We make one box with a separate place for each piece, so a necklace, earrings and bracelet are seen together as a set the moment the lid lifts.
The insert is laid out like a small display: the necklace across the top or centre, earrings to one side, a ring or bracelet below. We draw each recess on the dieline around the real measurements of your pieces, so you can see the arrangement before the box is made. Book Style Boxes and wide Custom Two-Piece Rigid Boxes give the most room for a full set, while Custom Drawer Boxes suit a pair of pieces that slide out together.
Sets sold for weddings, bridesmaids or anniversaries often carry a short message inside the lid or on a printed insert card. Tell us the wording and we place it on the proof.
What should I send you to make my jewellery packaging?
Tell us each piece you want to box, its measurements, how it should be shown, and whether the box will be posted, handed over at a counter or both, and we design the box and insert around that.
For rings we need the widest band and the height of the setting. For earrings, the length of the drop and the type of back. For necklaces and bracelets, the chain length, the pendant size and whether the clasp should show. For watches, the case diameter, the depth and the strap width. If your range includes several sizes, list them all and we size the insert so one box covers as many as possible.
Send your logo and any colours you already use, and say whether you want the box to match an existing pouch, bag or card. Shops that sell over the counter often pair the box with Custom Paper Bags in the same design. We then send a dieline and a digital proof so you can check the fit and the look before production.
