Lotion boxes hold the larger, heavier containers of the beauty shelf: pump bottles from travel size up to family size, and flat-ended squeeze tubes. A full lotion bottle is heavy for a folding carton, so the board weight and the base style matter more than for small cosmetics. Many lotion lines also use the box to group a set, such as a body lotion and wash pack.

A strong carton for a full bottle.
Artwork and materialsLotion cartons carry your brand on tall panels, with directions and ingredients on the back. Print direction matters, because tube cartons may stand, lie flat or hang. Our packaging guides cover sizing, materials, print, and cost in more depth.
Tall panels and print direction
We set your artwork on the dieline with the print running the way the carton is displayed, standing, lying or hanging. Ingredients and directions get their own panel, and the barcode lands where the shelf needs it.
Explore print and finishesSBS, heavier boxboard or kraft
SBS gives bright, clean colour, heavier folding boxboard carries the weight of a full bottle, and kraft paperboard gives a natural look. A splash-resistant coating keeps sun care and bath cartons clean on the shelf.

Cost factorsEvery project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.
- Bottle size and weight
- Larger, heavier bottles need thicker board and a stronger base, which both add cost.
- Base style
- A crash-lock base is a more complex cut and glue than a simple tuck base.
- Pump clearance
- A tall pump head adds carton height, and so board, to every box.
- Sets
- A duo or trio pack needs a wider carton and a divider or insert.
Choosing this format
Pump bottle or squeeze tube?
They need different cartons: a pump bottle needs height and a strong base, a tube needs length and a flat profile.
A pump bottle stands upright, so the carton is tall with the pump at the top. The pump head and its nozzle stick out sideways, which sets the carton depth more than the bottle body does.
A squeeze tube is crimped flat at one end and round at the cap end. It suits a long, flatter carton, often displayed lying down or hung on a peg.
- Pumps: tall, nozzle sets depth
- Tubes: long and flat
- Measure cap end and crimp end
Carrying the weight
A full bottle of lotion can be heavy enough to push through a tuck-end base.
A simple tuck-end base is held by a friction flap, which is fine for light products. For larger bottles, a crash-lock or auto-bottom base locks itself flat when the box is opened and takes the weight far better.
Thicker board helps too, especially if boxes are stacked on a shelf or in a case. Tell us the filled weight of the bottle and we choose the base and board to carry it.
Locking the pump for transit
Pumps can leak if pressed in transit, so the box and the pump lock should work together.
Most lotion pumps have a twist-lock or a clip that stops the head moving. Ship them locked, and size the carton so the top does not press down on the head.
An insert at the shoulder stops the bottle bouncing up into the lid. For bottles sent by post, an outer shipping box takes the knocks, so the carton top is not pushed down onto the pump.
Questions about lotion boxes.
Box style FAQsWe’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.
Read all frequently asked questionsCan you box a lotion and body wash together as a duo?+
Yes. We make duo cartons a little wider than a single box, with a card insert that gives each bottle its own space. Send us both bottles' measurements with pumps or caps fitted, since a flip-cap wash is often shorter than a pump lotion, and we set the carton height by the taller one. A front window can show both labels.
What packaging suits hotel and travel-size lotions?+
For hotel bottles we make small amenity boxes as simple tuck cartons or printed sleeves. For travel sets, we fit several minis into one shallow box with a cut insert, which is quicker to pack than separate cartons and presents the set together. Send us the bottle sizes with caps fitted and we size each space so the minis sit snugly.
Can a lotion box be made to resist splashes?+
Yes. For sun care and other products likely to meet water, we add a varnish or aqueous coating to the outside, so the carton sheds splashes and stays clean on the shelf. The box is there to protect and present the bottle up to the point of sale, so we recommend keeping the key directions on the bottle as well.
Which way should the print run on a squeeze tube carton?+
It follows how the carton will be displayed, so tell us whether it will stand on its end, lie flat on a shelf or hang from a peg. Lying-down cartons usually run the text along the long side, while standing cartons read across the panels like a bottle box. We mark the orientation on the dieline so your barcode and front face land where the shelf needs them.
