BoxifyMEYour brand, just way more boxified

Hairspray boxes are tall folding cartons built around a round aerosol can or a pump spray bottle. Many cans are sold without a carton, so a box is often used for premium lines, gift sets and travel sizes, where it adds print space and protects the can from dents. We size the carton around the can and cap and keep the shipping marks your boxed cans need on the outer carton.

What changes the price.

Cost factors

Every project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.

Height and size
Tall cartons for full-size cans use more board per box than travel sizes.
Base style
A crash-lock base holds a heavy can better than a tuck, at a little more board.
Print coverage
Wraparound full-colour print costs more than front-only print.
Sets and inserts
Gift sets with several cans need a divider or insert, which is an extra part.

Choosing this format

Fitting a round can in a square box

Size the carton to the can diameter and the full height with the cap on, and leave little play.

Aerosol cans are round, so a square carton touches them only at four points. A close fit keeps the can from rolling, and a crash-lock base stops a heavy can from pushing the base open.

Measure with the over-cap fitted. Caps are often wider than the can shoulder, and a cap that pops off in the box means a nozzle that can be pressed by accident.

  • Diameter plus cap height
  • Close fit stops rolling
  • Crash-lock for heavy cans

Shipping aerosols

Carriers often restrict aerosols in transit, and that applies to the product, not the box.

Many carriers and postal services limit pressurised cans, often by quantity per parcel, outer markings and air transport. A printed retail carton does not change how the can is treated.

Tell us how your cans will be sent and we leave clear space for any handling labels on the outer shipping box.

Space for heat and pressure warnings

Aerosol hairsprays carry flammability and pressure warnings that need clear space on the pack.

Warnings about heat, piercing and flammability are usually printed on the can, and often repeated on the carton so they are visible at sale. Give them a panel of their own, free of decoration, with symbols large enough to read at a glance.

Can carton or display box?

A carton is the right pick for premium, gift and travel cans; for an everyday can sold bare, a display box gives the line its shelf presence instead.

A carton adds cost and material to a product that is already printed, so it pays off where the extra surface tells a story, where cans are sold in sets, or where dents in a shiny premium can would put buyers off. For a standard line sold in volume, we make a printed display box that holds a row of bare cans on a shelf or counter, so the brand still stands out without a carton on every can.

Questions about hairspray boxes.

Box style FAQs

We’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.

Read all frequently asked questions
Is a box for a pump hairspray different from one for an aerosol can?+

Yes. Pump bottles are often plastic, lighter and shaped rather than round, so we size the carton to a different footprint, and they rarely need the crash-lock base we use for a heavier can. The pump head is also taller and more fragile than an aerosol cap. Send us the bottle's measurements with the pump fitted and locked, and we size the carton around that.

How should a hairspray gift set with several cans be boxed?+

We stand the cans upright in a box with a card divider, so each can has its own cell and the caps cannot knock off. If you would rather show the labels, we lay the cans down in a tray with a die cut insert that stops them rolling and keeps pressure off the nozzles. For mixed sets, such as a full-size spray with a travel can, we cut each cell to its own diameter.

Can you make boxes for travel-size hairspray?+

Yes, in their own size. A mini can rattles in a cut-down full-size carton, so we make a small carton fitted to the travel can. Travel sizes often sell from counters and pegs, so we can add a hang tab to each carton or supply them in a display tray that sits by the till.

Can the carton colours match our printed can?+

We can get them close. Ink on metal and ink on board look different even from the same artwork file, because a can has a bright, reflective base and board does not. Tell us the Pantone references printed on your can and we match the carton to them, and you check the colours on the digital proof before the full run.

Can hairspray cartons be made from kraft board?+

Yes. The warnings on a hairspray carton need to be easy to read, and dark text on brown board has less contrast than on white. We print a white ink block behind the warning panel, or use white board with a kraft-look print, so you keep the natural style and the required text stays clear. Tell us what the panel must carry and we lay it out on the proof.
