Choosing electronics & tech accessories packaging

Which box suits phone cases, chargers, cables, earbuds and small gadgets?

We match the box to how each product is sold: Custom Hang Tab Boxes for accessories on a peg wall, Custom Mailer Boxes for online orders, and Rigid Gift Boxes for flagship devices and gift editions.

Phone cases and cables are light, flat or coiled, and usually bought as an add-on, so a slim printed carton does the job well. Chargers and power banks are heavier for their size and want a closer fit. Earbuds and small gadgets are often the item a customer has waited for, which is where a rigid box or a mailer with a fitted insert earns its place.

Many accessory brands use two or three formats across one range: a hang tab carton for the everyday cable, a mailer for the online bundle and a rigid box for the premium model.

  • Cases and cables: Custom Hang Tab Boxes or Custom Folding Cartons
  • Online orders and bundles: Custom Mailer Boxes with an insert
  • Earbuds and flagship gadgets: Rigid Gift Boxes or Magnetic Closure Boxes

Can one insert hold the device, the cable and the manual?

Yes. We cut a separate cavity for each piece, so the device, the coiled cable, the plug and the folded manual each have their own place and nothing rubs against the screen.

We usually set the device in the centre where it is seen first, with the cable and plug in a recess beside or beneath it. The manual, warranty card and any stickers sit flat under the insert or in a shallow slot in the lid, so they are found without hiding the product. Each cavity has a finger notch or a ribbon pull so the device lifts out cleanly from a close fit.

Send us the measurements of every item as it goes in the box: the cable coiled and tied the way you pack it, the plug with its prongs, the manual folded to its final size. We draw every cavity on the dieline, and the digital proof shows how the whole set sits together before anything is cut.

  • One cavity per piece, device in the centre
  • Manuals and cards flat under the insert or in the lid
  • Finger notches or ribbon pulls for a clean lift-out

How do you build a layered unboxing for a tech product?

We make a lift-out top tray that holds the device, with a second layer beneath it for the accessories, so your customer meets the product first and everything else after.

Layering is what makes a device box feel considered. The lid comes off, the product sits alone on the top tray, and lifting that tray shows the cable, charger, spare tips or adapters underneath. We can print a short line on the face of each layer, or the name of each item under its cavity, so your customer knows what they are looking at.

Our Magnetic Closure Boxes add a deliberate first open, with a lid that stays shut when the box is tilted. A printed outer sleeve, as on Custom Rigid Sleeve Boxes, adds one more step before the lid lifts and carries your product details, leaving the box itself plain and premium.

Foam or board: which insert suits electronics?

We recommend board inserts for cases, cables and light accessories, and foam for heavier devices, curved shapes and anything with a glass face.

Our cardboard inserts print cleanly to match the box, fold flat for delivery and suit square, lighter products such as phone cases and chargers. Foam grips a curved earbud case, a rounded speaker or a smartwatch body closely and takes up knocks well. A card-topped foam insert gives you both: printed artwork on the face and the softer hold of foam beneath. Where you want a softer look, we can finish the insert top with flocking.

Finished devices in their own housing are normally packed in standard foam. For bare circuit boards, development kits and loose components, we offer anti-static foam, which is made to stop static building up. Tell us what you are packing, or what the device's maker specifies, and we choose the foam to suit.

  • Board for cases, cables and flat accessories
  • Foam for heavier, curved or glass-faced devices
  • Anti-static foam for bare boards and components

Can a gadget box go straight in the post?

Yes. Our Custom Mailer Boxes close with a tuck front and locking ears, and with a fitted insert inside they carry a device to your customer's door in one box.

For online sales we size the mailer around the insert rather than the bare device, so the box is only as big as it needs to be and the product cannot shift. Small accessories such as cables, cases and earbud tips can go in a slim mailer made to letterbox-friendly depths, so it fits through the letterbox. A peel-and-seal strip or a printed seal sticker shows the box has not been opened on the way.

If you sell a rigid presentation box online, we recommend a plain outer mailer around it, so the printed box arrives as clean as it left you.

What does an accessory box need for a peg wall?

A strong tab, a front that reads at a glance and a depth set to the peg, all of which we build into our Custom Hang Tab Boxes.

Accessories are often bought in a hurry, so the front panel has to say what the product is and what it fits within a second or two. We give the device model, connector type or cable length a clear place near the top, where it reads first on a crowded wall. For a heavier charger or power bank, we fold the tab into a double layer so it carries the weight at the hole.

A window below a solid strip at the top lets shoppers see the cable colour or case finish while the box hangs straight. If the same product also sits on a shelf, we can make the tab fold flat, so one box covers both.

Which finishes suit electronics packaging?

Most tech brands choose a dark or white box with soft-touch lamination and one sharp detail, such as spot UV, a foiled logo or embossing.

A restrained box puts the attention on the product image and the logo, which is why so much device packaging looks clean and quiet. Matte or soft-touch lamination gives that smooth feel in the hand, and spot UV picks out the logo, a product outline or a line pattern so it catches the light. Silver foiling sits naturally with metal and glass products, and holographic foiling suits gaming, audio and youth-led ranges. Embossing or debossing lets a logo be felt without adding another colour.

On a range of accessories, a shared finish and layout with a different colour band for each product keeps the shelf tidy while making each model easy to find.

  • Soft-touch lamination for a smooth, premium feel
  • Spot UV or silver foiling on the logo
  • Holographic foiling for gaming and audio ranges

What should I send to quote packaging for a tech product?

Send us every item that goes in the box, measured as packed, and tell us how the product is sold, and we do the rest from there.

Give us the device's length, width and depth, its weight, and the size of each accessory: the cable coiled as you pack it, the plug, any spare tips or adapters, and the manual folded flat. Tell us whether the product hangs on a peg, sits on a shelf, ships direct or does all three, and whether you want a single layer or a layered reveal. If the shape is unusual, send a drawing or photos with the measurements marked and we draw the cavities from those.

We then recommend the box style and insert, draw the dieline with every cavity in place and send a digital proof with your artwork on it. You check the fit, the layout and the finishes on the proof before anything is made.

  • Measurements and weight of the device and each accessory
  • How the product is sold: peg, shelf, online or all
  • Single layer or layered reveal
