Taco boxes hold tacos upright in slots or ridges so the shells do not tip and spill their fillings. They range from small open trays for one or two tacos to lidded boxes for a full order with sides. A good taco box keeps hard shells from cracking and soft tortillas from going soggy on the way to the customer.

Bright colour, upright tacos.
Artwork and materialsArtwork covers the lid and walls of a box or the sides of an open tray, with the slotted holder inside. Bright, bold colour suits taco branding, and kraft gives it a softer tone. Our packaging guides cover sizing, materials, print, and cost in more depth.
Lid, walls and holder
We place your main design on the lid or tray walls, keep key text clear of the slot folds, and show both kraft and white versions on the proof if strong colour matters to your brand.
Explore print and finishesKraft or white with coating
Kraft board with a coated inside gives a warm taqueria look and hides small oil marks. White grease-resistant board shows bright colour more vividly, and corrugated board carries larger party packs with the same design.

Cost factorsEvery project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.
- Holder insert
- Slotted inserts are an extra part or a more complex cut than a flat tray.
- Number of tacos
- Boxes for two, three or a party pack each need their own size.
- Lid
- A closing lid for delivery uses more board than an open tray.
- Bright full-colour print costs more than a single colour on kraft.
Choosing this format
Why tacos need holders
A taco lying on its side loses its filling - slots keep each one standing.
Taco boxes use a folded insert with V-shaped slots, or a base with raised ridges, so each shell sits upright with the open side up. This keeps meat, salsa and cheese where they belong and makes the order look tidy when opened.
- V-slots or ridges hold each taco
- Open side faces up
- Spacing stops shells pressing together
Hard shells and soft tortillas
The two behave differently in a box.
Hard shells crack if squeezed, so the slots should be slightly wider than the shell and the lid should clear the tops. Soft tortillas soak up juice and go soggy when steam is trapped, so a small vent or a lid that is not tightly sealed helps them hold together.
Salsas and sides
Keep wet extras apart from the tacos.
Salsa, guacamole and sour cream travel best in separate pots. Send us your pot sizes and we leave a pocket or flat space in the box for them, so they do not tip into the tacos or sit on top of the shells.
Questions about taco boxes.
Box style FAQsWe’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.
Read all frequently asked questionsHow do you size the slots in a taco box?+
We size the slots to your folded taco at its widest point, so each one stands snugly. Street tacos use small tortillas of about four to five inches, while standard tacos are often around six, so the two need different slot widths, and a slot that is too wide lets small tacos lean. Send us the measurements for each taco you sell and we size a box for each.
Are taco holders part of the box or a separate insert?+
We make both. Some boxes fold their slots out of the same blank, which keeps it to one part. Others use a separate die-cut insert dropped into a tray or box. A separate insert is an extra part, but it lets one outer box serve different taco counts or sizes simply by changing the insert.
What box suits burritos and quesadillas on the same order?+
Is kraft board a good choice for taco boxes?+
Yes. Kraft suits the look of many taquerias and hides small oil marks. We give kraft taco boxes a grease-resistant or coated inside, so juice from the meat and salsa does not soak through. Bright colours print less vividly on brown kraft than on white board, so if your branding relies on strong colour we can show both on the proof.
