Rigid bakery boxes are rigid boxes made for gift-giving sweet goods - macarons, chocolates, truffles, patisserie and luxury biscuits. They use a food-safe liner or tray to keep the food off the wrap, and a lid that keeps the contents protected and presentable. Unlike folding bakery boxes, they are kept and reused, which makes them a strong choice for gifting and seasonal ranges.

A treat box worth keeping.
Artwork and materialsArtwork wraps the lid and base, with a liner or tray inside that keeps food off the wrap. A plain brand-colour box can be dressed for each season with a sleeve or band. Our packaging guides cover sizing, materials, print, and cost in more depth.
Lid, base and seasonal extras
We set your brand on the lid and base wrap, framing any window if you want one. Seasonal sleeves, belly bands and stickers are designed to fit the box, so one box carries every season.
Explore print and finishesSpecialty papers and liners
Specialty papers give a patisserie finish, and a moisture-resistant wrap keeps the box looking good through chilling. Food-safe liners and paper or board trays keep the inside neat and on brand.

Cost factorsEvery project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.
- Food-contact layer
- A food-safe liner or moulded tray is an extra part between the food and the box.
- Cavities
- A tray with a cavity per piece costs more than a plain liner.
- Window
- A window cut and film add a step.
- Seasonal designs
- Each design is its own print set-up, so several seasonal versions add cost.
Choosing this format
Rigid or folding bakery box?
Folding bakery boxes are for everyday sales; rigid bakery boxes are for gifts that are kept.
A folding bakery box is light, low in cost and thrown away after use. A rigid bakery box costs more but feels like a present, survives being carried and is often reused - which keeps the brand in the customer's home.
- Folding: everyday, low cost
- Rigid: gifting, kept and reused
Keeping food and box apart
Food should sit on a food-safe liner, tray or glassine, not directly on the printed wrap.
Wrap papers and their inks are chosen for looks, not food contact. A food-safe liner or a moulded tray keeps chocolates and pastries off the board and stops fats marking it. We build the liner or tray into the design from the start, and leave room on the base for the information your product must carry, laid out on the proof.
Trays for delicate pieces
Macarons, truffles and filled chocolates need a cavity each, so they do not touch or roll.
A tray with one cavity per piece keeps each item separate and presentable after carrying. Handmade pieces vary, so send us the size of your largest piece and we draw the tray around it, with a little room so each one lifts out cleanly.
Questions about rigid bakery boxes.
Box style FAQsWe’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.
Read all frequently asked questionsHow do macarons and chocolates stay fresh in a rigid bakery box?+
The box protects them from light and knocks, and the pieces go in a sealed bag or a flow-wrapped tray inside it, or the closed box is shrink-wrapped. That inner seal is what keeps them fresh, since no rigid box is airtight on its own. We size the box and tray around your sealed pack and leave space on the base for the information your product has to carry.
Can a rigid bakery box go in the fridge?+
Yes. For chilled patisserie, we wrap the box in a moisture-resistant paper or add a laminated finish, because condensation forms when a cold box comes into a warm room. Keeping the box in a bag, or letting it warm up closed before it is opened, keeps the wrap looking its best. Tell us the box will be chilled and we choose the wrap to suit.
Can a rigid bakery box have a window?+
Yes. We can cut a window over the tray so shoppers see the colours of the macarons or chocolates, which helps a box that sells from a counter or shelf. Gift boxes that are wrapped or posted often go without one, so they feel like a closed present. We place the window over the tray, clear of the wrap edges, so it sits neatly.
How can I give a rigid bakery box a seasonal look without a new box each time?+
We recommend keeping the box in a plain brand colour and changing a sleeve, belly band, ribbon or sticker for each season. The rigid box and tray stay the same all year, and only the low-cost parts change for Christmas, Eid, Valentine's Day or Easter. A rigid sleeve box is the format built for exactly this approach.
Can a rigid bakery box be recycled after the food is eaten?+
Yes. The board and wrap go in with paper recycling as long as they are clean. Plastic trays come out first, so if you want the whole pack to go in together, we can make the tray from paper or board instead. Many customers keep rigid bakery boxes for storage, which is part of their appeal.
