Eyeshadow boxes are shallow cartons, sleeves or rigid boxes built around a palette or a single pressed pan. The pressed powder is the fragile part: it cracks if the palette is dropped or flexed, so the outer box has to fit closely and keep the palette flat. A palette box often shows the shade layout on the back so buyers can see every colour before opening.

Artwork and materialsEyeshadow boxes are flat, so the front and the back carry most of the artwork, with the back usually showing the shade layout true to the pans. Our packaging guides cover sizing, materials, print, and cost in more depth.
Front and back shade map
We lay out the front for the palette name and use the back for a printed map of every shade with names, setting the shade colours with care because shimmers and pale tones are hard to print.
Explore print and finishesCarton, sleeve or wrapped
Paperboard cartons fully enclose a plainer case, a printed sleeve lets a designed palette show at the open ends, and greyboard wrapped in printed paper gives limited editions a box worth keeping.

Cost factorsEvery project is quoted individually. These are the choices that move the price on almost every order.
- Build
- A printed carton or sleeve costs least; a rigid box with a magnetic lid costs more.
- Size
- Large palettes use more board, and rigid versions need more wrap paper.
- Print and finishes
- Full-colour artwork, foil and embossing are common on palettes, and each adds a step.
- Inserts
- A board or pulp insert that holds the palette still is an extra cut part.
Choosing this format
Protecting pressed powder
Pressed shadow cracks when the palette bends or takes a knock, so the box should stop it moving and flexing.
Most palettes are a card or plastic case holding metal pans of pressed powder. A drop onto a corner, or pressure in the middle of a thin case, can crack the pans. A snug outer box spreads that load and keeps the palette from sliding about.
For larger or heavier palettes, a stiffer board or a thin insert under the palette adds support without much extra cost.
- Fit close to the palette
- Stiffer board for big palettes
- Pans crack on corner drops
Carton, sleeve or collector's box?
A carton is the everyday choice, a sleeve shows off a printed palette, and a rigid box suits a collector launch.
If the palette case is already printed, a sleeve that slides over it lets the design show at the open ends and keeps packaging to a minimum. A folding carton fully encloses a plainer case.
Rigid boxes with magnetic lids are often used for limited editions and collaborations, where the box is kept after the palette is used.
A shade map buyers can trust
Buyers want to see every colour before they open the pack, so print the shade layout true to the pans.
A printed map of the shades on the back, with names, lets shoppers judge the palette without a tester. Colour accuracy matters, because shimmers and pale shades are hard to reproduce in four-colour print, so send us a colour reference for each pan and we match the map to them.
A window is less common on palettes because the case itself is usually closed. Where the case has a clear lid, a window in the carton can line up with it.
Ingredients and colour additives
Palettes list ingredients for every shade, which can take more room than expected.
Colour additives are often listed shade by shade, so the list grows with every pan in the palette. Settle the shade list before the artwork is final, and leave enough panel space for the full list at a readable size.
Questions about eyeshadow boxes.
Box style FAQsWe’ll confirm the exact details that apply to your structure and volume.
Read all frequently asked questionsHow do I measure an eyeshadow palette for its box?+
Measure the closed palette at its widest, longest and deepest points, including any raised logo, clasp or hinge. Palettes with a magnetic lid often have a lip that makes the lid a millimetre or two bigger than the base. Send us those figures and we add the right clearance: a little for a sleeve so it slides on without scuffing, slightly more for a tuck carton so the flaps close flat.
How are single eyeshadow pans packaged?+
We make single pans a small card sleeve or a tiny tuck box, which suits refills for magnetic palettes. The pan is light, but pressed powder can crack if it slides about, so we size the box to hold it flat. We give the shade name and swatch the most room on the front, because buyers choose singles to fill the gaps in their own palette.
Should the palette box match the palette case design?+
It can go either way, and we make both. Many brands repeat the case artwork on the box; others keep the case plain and let the box carry the full design. If your case is already printed, a window box lets that print show. Because the case and box are often different materials, send us your case colours and we match them on the proof.
Do baked or cream eyeshadows need a different box?+
Yes, because the box follows the container. Baked shadows are domed and stand higher than pressed pans, so we make the palette box deeper to allow for it. Cream shadows in pots or sticks do not crack like pressed powder, so they need less protection and suit a small jar carton or a slim stick carton. Send us the container sizes and we fit the box around them.
