Corrugated inserts, in detail

What is a corrugated insert?

It is an insert cut from corrugated board - two flat liners with a wavy fluted layer between them - which makes it stiffer and more cushioned than plain card.

We die cut it into trays, cut-outs, dividers or platforms shaped around your products. The fluting absorbs knocks and resists crushing, which is why corrugated is the usual choice for inserts in boxes that go through the post.

It still ships flat and folds or slots together at packing time, and it recycles with the outer box.

  • Fluted for cushioning and strength
  • Trays, dividers and platforms
  • Recycles with the box

Plain corrugated inserts

Plain corrugated keeps the board's natural kraft or white face - practical, sturdy and low in cost.

Kraft corrugated suits natural and eco-minded brands and sits well in a kraft mailer. White-top board gives a brighter, cleaner look inside a printed box.

For most shipped products, a plain corrugated insert is the best balance of protection and cost.

Printed corrugated inserts

A printed corrugated insert carries your colour or a simple pattern on its visible faces, so it matches the box's inside print.

We print the board before it is cut. Corrugated takes print more coarsely than cardboard, and its fluting shows at the cut edges, so bold colours, solid fills and simple patterns work best; very fine lines and small text are better kept for cardboard.

Your artwork is laid out on the insert's flat dieline, so it lines up with every cut-out, and you see the result in the proof before anything is made.

  • Best with bold, simple artwork
  • Fluting shows at the cut edges
  • Matched to your box's inside print

When is corrugated the right insert?

Choose corrugated when the product ships, is heavy, or sits in a box that will be stacked and handled.

Bottles, jars, candles, heavier products and multi-item kits all benefit from its strength. For light retail products a cardboard insert is cheaper and prints better, and for glass, electronics and high-value items foam gives a firmer, softer hold.

Your insert and your box, proofed together

We draw the insert's dieline alongside the box it sits in, so nothing rattles and the lid still closes.

Dieline support is free, and you approve a digital proof before anything is cut or printed.
