What is a rigid insert?
It is an insert built from thick, solid board - the same greyboard rigid boxes are made from - cut to your product and wrapped in paper.
We cut the board into a platform, a tray or a set of cavities, then wrap every visible face in paper, just like the box around it. The result is firm and heavy in the hand: it does not flex or fold, so the product sits exactly where it should every time the box is opened.
Rigid inserts are made up in advance and arrive ready to drop into the box.

Plain rigid inserts
A plain rigid insert is wrapped in a single colour or a textured paper, chosen to set off your product.
Black, white and deep colours look sleek and premium; linen and other textured papers add a crafted feel. Matching the insert's wrap to the inside of the box makes the two read as one piece.
Printed rigid inserts
A printed rigid insert is wrapped in a paper printed with your artwork, so the design continues inside the box.
We print the wrapping paper before it goes onto the board, laid out on the insert's flat dieline so the pattern lines up with every edge and cut-out. You see exactly how it wraps in the proof before anything is made.

When is a rigid insert the right choice?
Choose rigid when the box is premium and the reveal matters - gift sets, watches, jewellery, fragrance and spirits.
It pairs naturally with rigid and magnetic boxes. For lighter retail products a cardboard insert costs less, for shipped products corrugated adds cushioning, and for the softest hold on fragile items, foam is best - or set a foam cavity into a rigid platform for both.

We size the insert to the inside of the box it sits in, so it drops in cleanly and the lid closes flush.
Dieline support is free, and you approve a digital proof before anything is cut or wrapped.
